"Those who spend their wealth in Allah's way by night and by day, secretly and publicly — they will have their reward with their Lord." — Quran 2:274Zahid Zulfiqar, 41-year-old father of a son lives in a small home with his family in Faisalabad. There are 9 family members and they are living in the same house. It becomes very tough for Zahid to manage household expenses each month by running a small scale grocery store in his locality. Due to less stock, the grocery store generates a profit of only $15 at the end of each month. He and his younger brother take care of their old mother and a mentally handicapped sister. Both of the brothers struggle to meet the expenses of their old mother’s and sister’s healthcare. Zahid's dependents also include his wife and a 14-year-old son, who attends private school nearby. Zahid’s son has reached matriculation and his fees has become unaffordable for him. Therefore each month Zahid’s financial conditions become worse when paying for his son’s school fees. Zahid’s brother drives a rickshaw which generates almost $20 per month and his dependents include his wife and three children and each one of them attends school. The financial condition of Zahid’s household creates a very stressful environment at their house all the time. In order to escape poverty, Zahid has requested a loan of PKR 60,000 so that he can expand his grocery store business. He wants to purchase large amount of grocery items and also increase product range in the store. This will allow sales to increase and Zahid will be able to afford his son’s school fees, medicines of his old mother and sister, bills can be paid easily and other expenses can be met.
